That responsibility was moved to the City of Los Angeles in November 2019. The CRA/LA was responsible for ensuring compliance with the Wiggins Settlement and the Design Guidelines. ” These guidelines are triggered by the city’s permit process. The Community Redevelopment Agency of Los Angeles Board passed “ Design Guidelines and Controls for Residential Hotels in the City Center and Central Industrial Redevelopment Project Areas. How is the Wiggins Settlement implemented? The settlement also created a local hiring program for projects within the downtown redevelopment areas and established a Jobs Training Fund, for both capital improvements and job training programs. The settlement ensures that the City doesn’t go below that baseline by requiring that if any units are lost, they be replaced at the same affordability level, measured by Area Median Income (AMI). The Wiggins Settlement created a baseline of more than 9,000 low-income units downtown. The idea behind “no net loss” is to make sure that housing affordable to low-income tenants is not lost. Unchecked gentrification, sometimes aided by redevelopment, tends to lead to the loss of affordable housing. None of the 40 contributors, from Roger Doyle and Donnacha Costello to Cathal Coughlan and the Warlords of Pez, could incorporate any extraneous material, ensuring a faithful "recomposition" of Figgis's work. When the experimental electronic music label Front End Synthetics approached him with the idea of remixing Skipper, his sublime and understated instrumental album, which has endeared itself to both classical and electronica listeners, Figgis naturally had some conditions. This may seem like aesthetic authoritarianism, but it is typical of Figgis. When he has achieved the order that he wants he will notate the composition and, finally, hand it back for the original performers to play. He will then take the recordings and process the improvised material digitally. Prescribing a tempo and the keys in which they can work, he will allow them to improvise for 30 seconds. "I like collaboration," he says, "but only on my terms." This week, for example, he is bringing the Ottoni Ensemble, a local brass quintet, to Marlay House, in Rathfarnham, where he will establish strict parameters for performing. He describes it as the imposition of structure on musical improvisations but steers clear of conceding any jazz allegiances. The Dublin-born musician, who is Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's composer-in-residence, has been toying with a germane idea, a compositional approach he calls imposition. Over the following four days he will call me 14 times and I will consider changing my phone number. So long as I keep my hands where he can see them, refrain from recording him or from jotting down any notes, he will chat for more than an hour about his career, his music, his experiments with power chords and harmoniums and his two forthcoming performance pieces for Kilkenny Arts Festival and Dublin Fringe Festival, which are called Daniel Figgis' Motor and Daniel Figgis' Tamper. It's not that Figgis is reluctant to talk. The whole idea behind this tool is that it stops you from needing to track the tensions of each lug when replacing and tuning drumheads. The Rapid Drumhead Replacement System isn’t a conventional drum tuner, so it got us very interested when we first saw it being advertised. While it’s quite expensive, we highly recommend getting this tuner if you want something reliable and easy to use. It works a lot better for tuning drums than any of the other mechanical tuners on this list, simply due to the fact that the tension reader faces upward from the drumhead. Verdict: The Tama TW200 Tension Watch is a very well-designed mechanical drum tuner. However, if you want a solid mechanical tuner, this is your best option. You should also consider that more affordable digital tuners offer more features. The obvious downside of this tuner is the high price tag. Tama states that you’ll get more accurate tuning when using the bumper, but we got good results without it as well. When attached, the round structure made the tuner fit snugly wherever you placed it around the drumhead. This allows you to easily read all the tension measurements without having to move your head around as you do with other mechanical tuners. The best feature it has is the fact that the measurement dial faces upward. We didn’t realize how intuitive this tuner was until we used it. The Tama TW200 Tension Watch is brilliantly designed. While it’s a bit inconvenient to move around to read the tensions, we don’t see that as something to stop you from choosing this tuner. It measures tensions around the lugs very accurately, and it feels very stable when you move it around the surface of each drum. Verdict: The DrumDial Precision Tuner is a good budget option that is incredibly useful to use in loud settings. With our snare drum and floor tom being below us, we couldn’t see the measurements when sitting upright at the throne. The downside of this tuner was that we needed to angle ourselves to be able to see the readings. ![]() This made us realize how valuable it would be when trying to tune drums on a noisy stage. It measured pressure around the lugs, so it didn’t matter how much noise there was around us. We found the best use of a tuner like this to be in a loud environment. It had no learning curve, so we just placed it on our drums and started adjusting lug tensions. We love this thing simply due to the fact of how straightforward it is. The DrumDial Precision Tuner is our suggestion if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a drum tuner. ![]() This is a tuner that we’d easily recommend to any drummer, and its popularity already proves its quality. It’s easy to use, and the fact that you can save tuning settings is incredibly valuable. It does a fantastic job of helping you get drum tones that you wouldn’t be able to get with only your ears. Verdict: The Overtone Labs Tune-Bot Studio is an impressive digital drum tuner. Digital tuners can be quite flimsy, but we were impressed with the build quality. If you have multiple kits in your practice room, this is the tuner you need. The fact that we could save up to five different tuning settings was the big selling point. It’s so easy to use, and we loved the extra features that it offered. ![]() While that’s fairly standard for every digital tuner, we just found that this one worked the best. It will then help you tune each lug to perfection, giving you an amazing drum tone. This tuner clips onto the rim near each lug and gives you a pitch reading for the tension. The Tune-Bot Studio is the best option of the series, making it our best pick for this list. The Tune-Bot tuners are the most popular digital drum tuners on the market, and for very good reasons. It’s designed to be easier to use, and we thought it was one of the most durable tuners as well. It’s another mechanical tuner, but it’s designed a lot better than any other mechanical tuner available. The Tama TW200 Tension Watch is our Editor’s Choice. If you don’t want any fancy features, it’s a good choice to go with. It’s a straightforward mechanical tuner that measures the tension of each lug with a dial. The DrumDial Precision Tuner is our Best Budget Option. We found it to be extremely reliable, making it a top-tier option. It’s one of the most popular digital drum tuners on the market, and it’s incredibly intuitive and easy to use. I'd say it is unique to each team, and you’ll learn the right size by trial and error, but a good starting point is that it should be possible to complete several user stories within a two-week sprint. But before we do, it’s worth mentioning that user stories shouldn’t be too big. Now that we know what a user story is, it’s time to move on to epics. Keep it short, to the point, and capture the three C’s. In short, don’t write novels about your user stories. This allows people who are not present during all the conversations to understand what has been discussed, and it helps create alignment. More on this when we get to the epics! It’s helpful to capture the essence of these conversations by taking notes, drawing sketches, creating flowcharts etc. Product Manager, designers, developers, and other business stakeholders). The conversation refers to the actual conversations that happen between customers, product managers, developers, etc. Nowadays, the card is typically a ticket in an issue tracker (in the backlog), a bullet point in a specification document (before it hits the backlog), or a card in a user story map. Traditionally, this was written on index cards. The card refers to the place where the story has been written down. According to Ron, the three C’s of a user story are: The three C's framework does an excellent job at describing the components of a user story. Unlike traditional waterfall methodology, where requirements were used to end the conversation, agile user stories are meant to spark conversations. For some historical context, you can read more about how user stories came to replace use cases in agile development to be the de facto method for working with product requirements.Ī great way of thinking about user stories is the three C’s framework which the fantastic Ron Jeffries came up with. However, it’s important to realize that the phrasing of a user story is just the beginning. User stories typically live in the product backlog and should be articulated in a simple language that outlines for who and how they will generate value. external end-users, internal end-users, partners, etc. End-users can be anyone who comes into contact with your product, e.g. User stories are lightweight requirements phrased in a way that focuses on the end-user and the desired outcome. But first, let's make sure we have a good understanding of where each term comes from and really means. the implications the difference in size has on how product teams work with epics and stories respectively. Although it can be scary at first, company leaders find that when they put their trust in an agile team, that team feels a greater sense of ownership and rises to meet (or exceed) management's expectations. Now that we have gotten that out of the way we can focus on what matters, i.e. ![]() Their "definition of done" then informs how fast they'll churn the work out. The PICC and control were inserted into the device opposite of each other with the catheter tips at the base of the column of water, allowing simultaneous measurements from the PICC and control catheter. ![]() In an in vitro study, we designed an inverted T-device to generate controlled pressures via a column of water. A property unique to the Morpheus catheter is that the shaft transitions from increased stiffness at the proximal end to softer flexibility at the distal end. In addition, PICC length and flexibility, necessary design requirements, intuitively suggest to clinicians that central venous pressure measurement via PICC may not be accurate.įor our study, we selected the AngioDynamics Morpheus PICC. However, there is limited literature on functional accuracy of PICCs for measuring CVP. Interestingly, CVP monitoring is an indication for use for several commercially available PICCs, including those manufactured by AngioDynamics, Arrow, Bard, and Medcomp. Peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) are increasingly used in the hospital setting, and do not have the same risk of complications with insertion as compared to centrally inserted catheters. Ĭentrally inserted central catheters (CICC) and pulmonary artery catheters (PAC) are the current gold standard instruments for measuring CVP, but insertion of these catheters carries the risk of pneumothorax, hemothorax, and severe bleeding. In 2001, Rivers and colleagues demonstrated a sixteen percent reduction in hospital mortality with an early intervention bundle including aggressive volume resuscitation guided by central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring. Despite profound technological advancements in medicine over the last two decades, no intervention has impacted the treatment of severe sepsis and septic shock to the degree of early goal directed therapy. As the country's population grows and ages, the incidence of sepsis is also increasing. Severe sepsis and septic shock are the leading cause of death in non-cardiac intensive care units and the 10 th overall cause of death in the United States. Sepsis is a major cause of death in the world and carries a mortality rate of 20 to 60% depending on the severity of the disease. Clinical studies are required to assess whether the novel PICC has bedside equivalence to conventional catheters when measuring central venous pressures. In vitro, no static or dynamic pressure differences were found between the PICC and a conventional CVP catheter. Dynamic pressure waveforms plotted simultaneously between PICC and control revealed equal peaks and troughs. The correlation coefficient for both catheters was 1.0 (p-value < 0.001). The average bias determined by Bland-Altman plot was 0.043 mmHg for 5 Fr PICC and 0.023 mmHg for 6 Fr PICC with a difference range of 1.0 to -1.0. Six-hundred thirty measurements were made using the 5 Fr and 6 Fr PICCs. The resultant PICC and control waveforms were recorded simultaneously. Additionally, random repetitive pressure pulses were applied to the column of water to simulate physiologic intravascular pressure variations. Measurements of static pressures over a physiologic range were recorded using 5Fr and 6Fr dual lumen PICCs. ![]() Digital transducers were used to obtain all pressure readings. We designed a device to generate controlled pressures via a column of water allowing simultaneous measurements from a PICC and a standard triple lumen catheter. We studied the accuracy of a novel PICC to transmit static and dynamic pressures in vitro. Use of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC) is increasing, but little data exists comparing a PICC to a conventional CVP catheter. Central venous pressure (CVP) monitoring is essential to guide adequate resuscitation. Early goal directed therapy improves survival in patients with septic shock. |
